A Journey Through the Psalms and Proverbs

Shakespeare wrote: “All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts . . . .” I have played many parts: Coast Guard officer, engineer, businessman, internal auditor, son, brother, husband to Patti, father to Austin and Lauren, father-in-law to Kristin and David, and Papaw to Asher, Avery, Reesie, and Blakely. But I play the villain, too—a sinner, who enjoys these blessings only because of the grace and mercy of my Lord Jesus, the One who paid for my sins on the cross.

LIFT UP YOUR EYES!

Print Print

Psalm 123

Our Eyes Look to the Lord Our God

A Song of Ascents.

123:1 To you I lift up my eyes,
O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
Behold, as the eyes of servants
look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maidservant
to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he has mercy upon us.

Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
for we have had more than enough of contempt.
Our soul has had more than enough
of the scorn of those who are at ease,
of the contempt of the proud. (ESV)
