A Journey Through the Psalms and Proverbs

Hugh Stephenson

Hugh Stephenson

@stephenson1958

Hugh is from Georgia,
But God called him to Texas.

He prayed for a godly wife,
And God gave Him Amy.

He prayed for three children,
And God gave him Tori, Jack and Thomas.

His success was his comfort,
But his emptiness was drowned in addiction.

He ignored instruction
And participated in an abortion.

His sins caused a deep family crisis,
And he surrendered to God.

He listened to reproof
And now has wise friends.

God redirected the path of his life
And called him to service.

His instruction was in God's Word
Through re:gen, Prodigal and Forgotten Fathers.

Now he prays to give an apt answer
And for humility that honors God.

TO APT? OR NOT TO APT? THAT IS THE QUESTION!

Proverbs 15:23-33

23 To make an apt answer is a joy to a man,
and a word in season, how good it is!
24 The path of life leads upward for the prudent,
that he may turn away from Sheol beneath.
25 The Lord tears down the house of the proud
but maintains the widow's boundaries.
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord,
but gracious words are pure.
27 Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household,
but he who hates bribes will live.
28 The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer,
but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
29 The Lord is far from the wicked,
but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart,
and good news refreshes [1] the bones.
31 The ear that listens to life-giving reproof
will dwell among the wise.
32 Whoever ignores instruction despises himself,
but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.
33 The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom,
and humility comes before honor. (ESV)

MEMORY VERSES

Proverbs 17:27-28

Whoever restrains his words has knowledge,
and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise;
when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.
